OK WE ALL AGREE THAT THIS MODEL IS A JUNK. THE STRANGE THING HERE IS THAT MOST OF THE MACHINES FAILED AROUND THE SUMMER OF 2007 (LIKE MINE TOO). ONE OF THE VICTIMS (THATS WHAT WE ARE) MENTIONED IT LOOKS LIKE THE PROBLEM IS BEING PROGRAMED TO OCCUR WITHIN 6 MONTHS TO 18 MONTHS. SONY DESERVES ALL OUR ANGER ( I READ SOMEWHERE THAT THIS IS ACTUALLY A LG MACHINE WITH A SONY STICKER. THE PROBLEM IS ( I THINK WE WILL AGREE ON THIS ) IS THE LASER FOR READING/WRITING THE DVD DISKS (IT PLAYS VCDS FINE). ONLY HELP IS OURSELVES OR SOME FRIEND TO OBTAIN A LASER UNIT FOR THIS MODEL AND INSTALL IT OURSELVES ( TO SAVE SOME MONEY ). BUT WHERE DO U GET A LASER UNIT FOR THIS MODEL?????????

Like everyone else, utter Junk. Stopped working within warranty, was swapped by sony for a scratched refurbished unit. That stopped working outside warranty period. I have many sony products, this unit has seriously damaged their reputation with me, as I guess it has most of the people on this review page. Yes, I've had it a long time now... but it was over 230 quid when I bought it. I don't forget. Sony should offer a replacement/upgrade to any poor sod who can prove purchase of this!

A fine peace of junk, the first i got failed recording several times in the first year, went to Sony assistance and never camed back good. The second i got (cas Sony assured me it was a good recorder, layers),failed after only 6 months recording. Sony Portugal are a bunch of layers and incompetents and Sony should be ashamed of selling this trash and refusing giving my $ back.

Dont anybody touch this machine even with a barge pole. It is guarenteed to pack up just after the first year. Sony know all about the design faults in it but are refusing to help the poor punters who already have bought one in good faith, trusting in the Sony name. After the RDR GX210and henceforth never trust the Sony name again for quality. Dont believe it? just google RDR-GX210 and read the woe!

I give this DVDR a poor rating because I expected some reliability from Sony kit. After less than 2 years this has now ceased to play or record DVD's. As with a previous post by Neil this will now only play audio CD's. A search in the Internet shows this to be a common problem with the GX210 and the cost of a replacement DVD drive unit exorbitant.

The performance has gradually got worse over time. First it would not record on faster discs; now it has fianlly packed up recording or playing DVD and CD video although it will play audio. It will not play cleaning discs.

Absolute junk! what more can i say other than i bought two of these and both were faulty from the start and within 2 weeks they were both unusable as the problems got worse and worse. I went to a Sony repair centre and he said send them back as the 210 was the most unreliable unit he has ever come across, does that not just say it all!!! I now have a Philips 610 and a 3308 and both have been performing flawlessly.

Not a bad recorder by any standards but below par for a Sony machine. Annoyingly slow in loading dvd format and bad picture on later recording formats. Would not recommend to anyone as there is better machines out there for a similar price.

ving made the mistake of paying #99 for a Matsui DVD recorder, I took advantage of Dixons 14 day return policy and upgraded it for this Sony GX210. Immediately the quality shows in the setup, menus and recording output, gives much more flexibility of media and the ability to get more recording time from the same DVD+RW disc. The manual recomends connecting the GX210 in serial between a SKY decoder and the TV using two SCART cables. This works well for auto switching between inputs on the TV, but resulted in a coloured horizontal band across the top of the TV with my setup (Amstrad Sky box; Samsung Plasma TV). In summary, you get value for money if you buy Sony, even if it is a little more expensive. You can save #100 by buying online.
