Reviewed by Jimmy Nilsson on 12/04/2012 Page 6 in the manual says: This DVD Recorder can allow you to protect the contents of your discs, as described below. Cartridge-protected: With the Write Protect tab located in the pro- tect position, the con-tents of the disc cannot be recorded, edited, or erased. DVD-RW (Video mode) Program-protected: See page 65 gLocking a Titleh Disc-protected: See page 77 gDisc Protectionh Roflol, some of you should give yourself a 1p review, hilarious to read. It was a good machine back then thinking about what it did cost, no? I think so, READ THE MANUAL if youLr no tech wizard, all young men (incl. children, lol) think they know stuff, like all stuff? Think again or educate yourself further. Rating:
Reviewed by Marty on 04/12/2005 I have had the DVD-R100E for about 3 months and have been very pleased with it. I have used it with quite a range of different DVD-R brands without problem and Infinity DVD-RW seem fine. Although Panasonic DVD-RAM discs have always worked, I reformat after use to start with a "clean" disc. The picture and sound quality is excellent although I have never been inclined to use EP (6 hours) recording mode which would really only be suitable for mono video and sound. I have had complete success with recording VHS, DVD and Freeview sources but the DVD-R100E does recognise the macrovision signal so a device to block this has to be used if appropriate. Although it was sold as a Region 2 player a code off the internet has converted it to multi-region though I did have to hunt around for quite a while to find it. I would agree that the fan is somewhat noisy, and I still find the editing features lack the fine detail/control that is sometimes needed when removing adverts and the like - but I have no experience of other recorders capabilities.
The videoplus feature is a nice bonus and there are a good range of sockets at the back and also the front. So, overall I have no regrets in my purchase. Rating:
Reviewed by NOBODY SPECIAL on 22-04-2005 I had to have my say as two and a half out of five, what a cheek. Perhaps some people just don't know how to wire up properly as I have backed up from camcorder and my old vhs tapes from the 80's up to 2 1/2 hours no problems whatsoever. EXCELLENT. Rating:
Reviewed by S. Harrison on 15-03-2005 The reason for giving this DVD Recorder a 'poor' rating is for two reasons. We took our player back to the shop because it wouldn't record a few Video tapes which were NOT code protected. When attemting to record these tapes the DVD recorded cut out and a message came up saying that 'copy protected material cannot be recorded'.We contacted Samsung direct, they just said that we must be trying to recorded 'Copy protected material'etc.,A couple of months later two friends were able to record our same tape on their machines with success! In the meantime the Samsung was then just switching off for no reason during playback of a shop bought DVD so we decided to give up and returned the machine to the shop. We now have a Liteon 5005. So far so good, it has recorded the tape I previously mentioned and the picture quality is all far better than the Samsungs ever was. My advise is, if you want to record your TV programmes or Movies from Video tape onto DVD, then don't rely on the Samsung r100e!!! Rating:
Reviewed by malcolm on 24-02-2005 I've had my R100E 2 months now and I have found 2 minor faults so far. The first being I have to run my sky digital through my video's av circuit, because when it's wired direct to the recorder the picture flashes slightly not badly but enough to spoil a recording, and secondly qtr recordings seem to stop before the timer runs out. Haven't tried the timer yet but as I always watch as I record thats no big problem................on a good note I have recorded 20 + films and as of yet no problems with sound and as for picture quality I have used the cheapest -r I could find (kg media 3 for £2.00 in case's) and the recording quality is as good as the original source on sp. emtec -r/-rw also work well and picture quality is good aswell Rating:
Reviewed by Jenny, Winchester on 01-02-2005 This is my first venture in the the DVD market, so am not able to compare it with anything. However, managed to configure it successfully with my Freeview DCB, TV and old VCR, so I can record from DCB or VCR. Had the machine 2 weeks now. Bought it because (a) it was under £200, (b) it supports -RW, -RAM and JPEGs, (c) is more slimline than any other DVD recorder on the market at the moment, and (d) has one-touch recording. Not yet had any problems with sound missing from recordings. Playback sound levels do tend to be about 60-70% of those from TV/VCR signal, probably the DVD output itself since commercial DVDs are also quieter. Picture quality depends on disc used, not just recording speed. SP on an approved disc (see below) is perfect and loss of definition at LP barely perceptible. Not tried EP yet, but at one third of regular speed I would not expect ace picture quality. Can't have your cake and eat it! I have only had it refuse to record one VCR; made backup copies of 4 of my favourite films so far from my VHS tapes (official commercial issues). The one which refused to copy because of a copywrite signal was a Carlton TV film (commercial issue) which is not available on DVD - annoyingly. It seems a little fussy about discs. The retailer sold it to me with a pack of 5 Samsung Pleomax DVD-RW 2x and a pack of 3 Panasonic DVD-RAM 3x. 1 of the Samsung discs failed to initialise; 2 of the Panasonic RAM discs failed to format, as did the 2 replacements (the whole lot went back to the retailer). Turns out that neither Samsung nor Panasonic discs are approved by Samsung for use with the R100E! Stick to what Samsung recommend in the manual. I have had success with TDK DVD-RW 2x so far, also Maxell DVD-RW 2x (though Samsung only recommend -R and -RAM if a Maxell disc). Recording quality on the initialised Samsung discs is not as good as the Maxell ones. The CD-R photo discs from my local Fuji developers play beautifully - so I get slide shows of all my holiday pictures. Well chuffed. I would concur that the fan is a little noisy, but I only notice it during silent scenes. And I don't have any other DVDs to compare it with. It is certainly nothing like as loud as, say, your average video projector. Having read reviews about the Panny E55 etc, I am quite happy with my Samsung and find it very easy to use. I look forward to trying more advanced editing etc with it. Rating:
Reviewed by Kenny on 26-01-2005 On paper it did what i needed, in reality not impressed. It wont let me back up my old VHS tapes, some of which go back 20yrs ago. it gives a message that the tapes are copyrighted, which may or may not be true, as some of the contents are old music programs off TV. was top of pops copyrighted back then? Also sometimes it doesn't record the sound either. It has no audio level adjustment for external connections, not all devices give the same input level, so on DVD the volume levels are set to the level of the source. It doesn't even come with a blank disc to get you started, just an audio and antenna lead, big Wow!!! The picture quality of the 6hrs setting seems worse that VHS. It sometimes puts a "wavy" line down the LH side of the TV picture, which ain't nice. By the way, I've asked for my money back, waiting for an engineer to come and verify all above before I can get anything back from them. Have fun, i know i didn't Rating:
Reviewed by Dave on 26-01-2005 How can this machine be the same as the Hitachi DV-RX7000E when that model does not output a progressive scan signal, and the Samsung does? Rating:

Reviewed by Phill on 27-11-2004 Same model as the Hitachi DV-RX700E just a different front face, records well and easy to use, though the cooling fan seems rather loud and so spoils the otherwise good quality. Rating:
