I bought this machine and all was well for the first year. Then it stopped recording on non-Philips DL discs but recorded fine on Philips ones. Then it stopped recording on those too and now it has stopped recording on RW discs. Unreliable.

AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! The player/recorder worked fine for a few months! Then started being picky about which discs it would playback. Even previously finalised discs would not load and came up as a blank disc! Which seem to have wiped them!!! I have tried various quality brands of dvds and the problem lies with the machine. I can record a programme, play it back but if I take the disc out and put it back in it comes up blank again. Philips have some shoddy products out there like their jukebox mp3 players. It's all hardware issues. I experienced nothing but trouble with them so will not buy the philips brand ever again. The website and help centres were a total waste of time. They did not care. AVOID! AVOID! AVOID!

I bought this product from tesco back in 2007. for the first 12 to 18 mths had no problems. then it stopped finalising discs so i stopped recording. next it started wiping finalised discs. now it will only read discs when it feels like it. I won't be buying Philips products again.

It records for about 30 minutes then an error message "update" box shows on the screen and it shuts itself off and ruins the recording. It recorded OK a few initial times and now its not able to. Its under warranty so will take it back to Tesco. Won't buy another Philips as this is the second problem one now. Will buy a Sony or Panasonic.

Not a bad player but had to return it to tesco. The problem for me was the zoom function, which I use a lot. The associated OSD for the function remains on the screen all the time as well as a scroll box. A google search confirmed this was normal. Apart from that it was a good played and the USB input was very useful too.
