Reviewed by Russ on 19-10-2005 Ive finally got round to buying a stand-alone DVD recorder.Up to now ive been using the pc to make my SVCD & MP3 disks. The effort involved in making these disks vary from easy to very difficult .. depending how the PC feels! About the Pan DMRES10EB .. im just blown away with the way it re-records a VHS tape & does such a unbelievable job! Its quite amazing how it "cleans" up the recordings (so long as they are pretty reasonable in the 1st place) .. THIS IS ONE AMAZING MACHINE !! ..I cant imagine what sort of Quality of the final disks using the "top of the range" DVD recorder .. but for £££low .. this one is brill. Its our 1st DVD recorder & although im quite a fan of LG / Sony products .. i went for the Panasonic after reading the reviews.Im never sure about reviews because U never know whos writing them !!! but this baby sure lived up to the reviews & some. I never give a product a 10/10 but this is close. Theres always going to be things u wished it would do .. but so far the only thing is .. NOT being able to create chapters! BUT .. it apparently does this automatically. BUILD : the unit isnt very heavy but the front panel is pretty smart. So far im using the remote .. but i like the BIG round REC button on the far right. It wont eject the cd from the remote .. but then my arms wont reach accross the room to change the disks !! HI .. EASE OF USE : the menus .. well all this gear takes a little time to remember where things are .. but no real problems.I liked the way u can decide what thumbnail u want u use for the disk menus .. thats very neat. MAKING A DISK : one thing i must stress .. dont leave it recording & go & make a phone call !! I did this & came back to find it was still on recording 1/2 hr later & id forgotten .. Luckily it was a DVD-RW disk & i could start again !! BE CAREFULL ... its not like video tape. FINAL THOUGHTS : the RF out of my one seems to be downgraded .. as ive got it linked to the tv so i can watch tv & record anything else. The PAN-ES10EB causes the tv tuner to look really bad. The tuner on the PAN-ES10EB works very well. This doesnt happen when my VHS recorder is in the same set up !!????? very strange. MY VERDICT : if U are thinking of getting a DVD recorder .. & this one fits your price .. try one. It does a good job. Rating:
Reviewed by hardwarereviewer@hotmail.com on 19-09-2005 Even though it is a fantastic set, mine completly crashed in less than 3 weeks after purchase. Out of nothing it just wouldn´t turn on anymore. Only the clock and the timer indicator stays on. There is a disc inside the unit but I can´t eject it cause the unit won´t turn on. Sent it to repair, but they said they will have to have return to the factory because they do not know how to reset it. Too bad, I really was enjoyng it. It records all formats (DVD-RAM, DVD-R, DVD+R, DD-RW), unless DVD+RW. With DVD-RAM you get exceptionally powerful editing capabilities. For example, with DVD-RAM, you can even watch a program at the same time that it is being recorded, with a time diference of only 5 SECONDS behind !. The disc menu is increadibly exciting with true live thumbnail pictures that play the titles as you move the cursor throughout them. You can change the sequence of the chapters, move, rename titles, shorten titles, erase comercials, etc... Best of all, this set treats the DVD-RAM or DVD-RW just like a hard drive. That means, if you erase a title that was recorded in the beginning of the disc, the reamining time will automatically increase ! You never have to worry about recording over an older recorded title. Timer recording is super easy, you can name the future recording BEFORE the machine actually records it, so you will always know what you´ve recorded ! It even tells you, acording to remainig time left in the disc, until what date that particular programmed recording will be possible. There is a "PHRASE BANK", so you do not have to re-type the name of a title every time you want to record it, and so on... I just can´t stand the fact that I spent hundreds of dollars for a thing that only worked for 2 and 1/2 weeks. hardwarereviewer@hotmail.com Rating:
