Reviewed by RDCoupland on 19-10-2005 I have owned a DMREH50 for around four months now,and found the machine to be an absolute delight to use. I also have the very excellent DMR-E55 DVD-R and RAM recorder which also produces first class results, however I found it a little limiting relying on disc storage only. Both machines have truly flexible editing options and quality settings, however the 50 has the edge on the 55 with its increased flexibility. Provided you use good quality connections and feed the device with the best quality signal you can manage, be it Sky digital or Freeview, the results will astound you. It's no exaggeration to say that in XP mode the recording will be an improvement on your source - it's a fact. For most users, the SP mode is perfectly adequate and will reward all users for sure. It's the 50's 'set-it-and-forget-it' nature of operating that for me sets it apart from the 55. Picture in picture, instant rewind, smart navigation and a host of facilities make it special. If you've considered Sky+ but already have Sky then this machine is surely worth your consideration as the ability to watch a recorded programme, while recording another on either drive surely is enough to ask for let alone cope with! Totally recommended,a purchase you wont regret! Rating:
Reviewed by Tony Allen on 18-10-2005 I just purchased this DVD recorder and have to say i made a BIG mistake, after careful condideration, i should have gone for the DMR-E55. a much better machine by far and at almost the same price, no comparison! go for the Panasonic DMR-E55. Rating:
