Reviewed by Ann Ingham on 22/01/2010 This is the 3rd time this machine has gone wrong - yes - the dreaded U61 error code has come up again. This thing is going to be recycled into something much better and more useful. I always thought that by buying panasonic you were getting quality, not so it seems. I shall now steer away from anything panasonic in the future. I am now going to buy a good dvr/dvd recorder. Any recommendations? Rating:
Reviewed by colin frost on 26/07/2009 good when working dissapointing when not which is mor often than not. cannot reccomend it fo the original cost Rating:
Reviewed by T McA. on 25/07/2009 Initially I thought is was a really good combi recorder. It was easy to use, made excellent copies of my old videos onto dvd and they were easy to edit. However just after the guarantee was up, a U61 error appeared in the middle of recording and the machine started making a noise. Nothing would fix this, no amount of rebooting made any difference and the U61 error appeared every time the machine was switched on. It would cost almost as much as buying a new recorder to have it repaired. I think a dvd recorder at this price should last at least 3 - 5 years without faults like this occurring. As this seems to be quite a common fault with this recorder, I would not recommend it. Rating:
Reviewed by B.McK on 10/05/2009 Me again - just under the 2 year anniversary and after roughly another month of the annoying U80 code followed by a green screen, its put up the U61 code again!! I think it will be scrap now which is prob the best thing for it after all the continually annoying little niggles it had - although when it did work okay it was good. I have now got my 10 year old Nokia OnDigital box, old VCR and DVD player out of the loft which work perfect - just takes up a lot of space having 3 separate units. I certainly wont be buying another Panasonic version of this again though!! Rating:
Reviewed by rob evans on 24/01/2009 We also get the annoying U80 code all the time and now it's stopped playing disks altogether, giving the "no Read" message even when there is no disk in! Rating:
Reviewed by D.Kay on 10/1/2009 on 10/01/2009 I purchased this unit 18 months ago and it has been problematic, I thought it was us not doing things correctly,It has now packed up completly and shows error U61 and makes a horrible noise. For the large amount of money we paid for it I think it is total rubbish and I shall NOT repair the rotten thing, It is now scrap. Rating:
Reviewed by B.McK on 24/11/2008 This is just an update since mine went back to ****** approx 1 year ago to have the U61 error fixed, which they did free of charge as i had only had it 5 months - no more probs along those lines, however within the last few months it quite often does the U80 error code - put it on standby then back on and its fine (till next time), i gather its something to do with the disc (who knows), i kept turning it on standby wen not watching freeview but now i leave it on all the time and no probs (touch wood)! Only thing i worry about is in 2012 i wont be able to record casualty and watch celebs in the jungle!!!!!!!! Rating:
Reviewed by Michael P.Baker on 21/11/2008 I purchased this model 18 months ago and have had problems with reading some discs. After I had taken then out and tried again they worked. Recently it stopped working altogether with a U61 error. The instruction book says that the unit has found an error during recording and it proceeds with the recovery procedure. When it did not Panasonic told me to take it to a service engineer. The cost they wanted was over £300+ They said that Panasonic wahted to charge them £250+m for the required part. Avoid this model. Reviewed by Ann Ingham on 17/05/2008 The device itself is very good when working but... it has just gone wrong again and this is the 2nd time in 12 months. It refuses to accept any disc saying it is an unrecordable one when it isn't and it is so frustrating trying to get hold of anyone at panasonic to sort it out. I have always been held in a long queue on the telephone before speaking to a real person. I would not buy this dvd recorder again. Error U61 came up after it said the disc was either scratched or unrecordable. Rating:
Reviewed by Dario on 22/02/2008 I bought one of these in April 07 and have had nothing but trouble with it. The DVD's get stuck in the unit, error U080 codes stop timer recordings and now, having got it back after 2 weeks in the workshop, can only get a black and white picture. What a waste of money Rating:
Reviewed by B.McK. on 02/12/2007 I've had mine just over 5 months, it's been great up till now but it decided to put up the error code U61 and stop working while recording celebrity jungle on ITV2. Best not say where I bought it but it was a proper High Street shop, still under guarantee so taking it back 2moro to see what they say! Liz - put your cam recordings on a CD via your computer, my sd card pops in the front of my printer, (Windows DVD Creator is good coz u can mix pics and video) then play the CD on your DVD Recorder. Reviewed by Liz on 01/10/2007 I've had this about 11 months now very easy to use!had a look at it 4 or 5 times before getting it!but glad I did copying so easy! NOT had a problem with TV guide as I have good reception, only 1 thing with the sd card slot can only view pic's and not cam recordings any help on this Pleeease!!!!!!!!! Rating:
Reviewed by D.G.Lavill on 27/09/2007 I have had this unit for about 6 months, It does everything that it supposed to do and does it well. I have transfered all of my home videos on to DVD, no problem. the unit is easy to operate and to program. The only problem I have had is that the TV Guide menu often runs slow, but I think that this is more of a signal strength issue as I live in a poor reception area. I would highly recommend this unit. The editing function on the RAM disk is excellent. I took a long time to decide which unit to buy, but I now know that I made the right choice. Rating:
Reviewed by David Harrop on 17/07/2007 Good but I am finding it difficult to buy the DVDs for copying photographs on the high street, also to buy a lead to fit the port for the JPEG to transfer video from my digital video cemera.Otherwise everything else is great. Rating:
