Reviewed by Goinglogo on 07/04/2008I purchased this product in December 2007, and while it seems technically sound, it has issues concerning basic editing functionality that mean one should think twice before purchasing. Its most crucial shortfall is that this device will not let you "split" video recordings on the HDD. If you intend to do a mass transfer of those archive video 4/8 hour tapes, be prepared to have to press record and stop for each episode individually. None of this letting it record overnight and edit it later. For example, if you have a 4 hour tape and you record it all in SP mode onto the HDD, you will not be able to transfer it onto two 2 hour discs, *because you can't split it*. This "split" functionality is present on other brand DVD recorders owned by friends and relatives and is, I feel a serious shortcoming on this model. Secondly, in English (and every other video device I have ever purchased), the word "dubbing" implies that additional or new sound is to be added to an existing recording. It took several readings of the manual to realise that where they say "Dubbing" on the remote control, what they mean is "Copy". in order to copy titles between the HDD and DVD Discs, I needed to use the "dubbing" function on the remote control. Once I worked this out, there is a "quick copy" function, but it is not flexible enough to allow you to decide whether you want to copy in Short Play(SP) or Long Play(LP) mode *unless you play the whole title while you are recording*. In conclusion, what seems to be a great product in terms of video and audio capture is let down by a poorly thought out software implementation. Rating: ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Champi on 06/03/2008 Does not read multi-session DVDs burned on a PC (only the 1rst session). Recording from disk on a DVD (R or RW) is very slow. Where is the fast mode ? Can't read the DvDs recorded on a PC. Next time I will buy a multimedia disk..... Rating: ![]() Reviewed by IEW on 12/01/2008 This recorder does not have the means to repeat record i.e. if you want to record Eastenders daily then you have to set the recorder up each day. This recorder cannot divide recordings on the hard drive into 2 smaller titles (you can on DVD RWs). So if you record 2 consecutive films that are longer than can be fitted onto a single DVD then you cannot save them onto the disk. The specimin that I have is very slow to jump between chapters (4 seconds per jump) The specimin that I have has rejected all recordable DVDs (even the specific make mentioned in the manual) I cannot work out how to copy from HDD to disk faster than 1x Setting up a timed recording is slow (in my opinion). Instead of typing the time using the number buttons, you have to scroll using arrow buttons. I am sorry to say that I would recommend that unless the above does not matter to you that you do not consider this particular machine. It is worse than I could possibly imagine. Rating: ![]()
