Reviewed by Liam C on 23/03/2011 I bought this a few years ago with the express intention of transferring all my SVHS tapes to digital and then onto DVD. I have only recently had the time to attempt it. I have to say the whole software/menu interface is pathetic. I am constantly plagued with "copyright signals detected" interruptions. All my tapes are/were brand new studio quality SVHS which were recorded on the same camera so this is clearly untrue. Turns out any recording gap on the tape triggers this. Trades Description my eye. As others have said, the inability to split or join files is a right pain. All in all, a bad buy. So I'll be staying away from LG in future. Rating:

Reviewed by P Boland on 29/12/2009 A feature of LG Recorders appears to be that after a period of between 6-18 months the laser develops a fault resulting in failure to read and DVD. Mine was just outside the warranty period when this occured, so I'm goosed/ Rating:
Reviewed by Tony Howels on 28/12/2009 I purchased the LG RH266 on 28/3/2008 and up to about 3 months ago it had performed fairly well. However, recently things have been going wrong! Some 3 months ago the picture quality of recordings onto the hard disk deteriorated and lost sharpness. This Christmas more problems have arisen! One pre-recorded disk I inserted kept freezing for periods of between 0.5 to 7 seconds throughout before resuming play? this of course extended the watching time and took much of the enjoyment out of the comedy. Four other pre-recorded disks which I inserted into my LG RH266 would not be recognised?? I decided to clean the optic which made no difference whatsoever. I decided to reconnect my Phillips DVD Player and all is now well. My LG RH266 is now destined for the dump. Definitely not a good purchase! Rating:
Reviewed by Craig Lawrence on 27/11/2008 My one developed a fault which quadruplicated everything I chose to timer record. Ordinarily deleting the over 3 copies might have been a workround however the over 3 recording werte overwriting previously recorded programmes. Trimmjing video footage was painful as you could only work through at the standard play rate. I must say I did find timer recording was about the easiest I've used - but never again. My LG tv stopped working almost exactly to the day that it's warranty expired. Rating:

Reviewed by Benqfc on 19/07/2008 I had the machine for 3 month now, I have to say that I'm very unhappy. 1. Like all the other reviewers mentioned; that the device "can not split" the video on HD. If you recorded a 24 hours show on HardDisk, there's no way you can transfer it to DVDs. 2. The "Analog Tuner" only in "Mono" mode, which means, If the TV show is in Stereo or in SAP, this device can only record it in "Mono" mode. Seriously.. I bet most of the people who own the machine have not realized it yet .... Rating:
Reviewed by Goinglogo on 07/04/2008 I purchased this product in December 2007, and while it seems technically sound, it has issues concerning basic editing functionality that mean one should think twice before purchasing. Its most crucial shortfall is that this device will not let you "split" video recordings on the HDD. If you intend to do a mass transfer of those archive video 4/8 hour tapes, be prepared to have to press record and stop for each episode individually. None of this letting it record overnight and edit it later. For example, if you have a 4 hour tape and you record it all in SP mode onto the HDD, you will not be able to transfer it onto two 2 hour discs, *because you can't split it*. This "split" functionality is present on other brand DVD recorders owned by friends and relatives and is, I feel a serious shortcoming on this model. Secondly, in English (and every other video device I have ever purchased), the word "dubbing" implies that additional or new sound is to be added to an existing recording. It took several readings of the manual to realise that where they say "Dubbing" on the remote control, what they mean is "Copy". in order to copy titles between the HDD and DVD Discs, I needed to use the "dubbing" function on the remote control. Once I worked this out, there is a "quick copy" function, but it is not flexible enough to allow you to decide whether you want to copy in Short Play(SP) or Long Play(LP) mode *unless you play the whole title while you are recording*. In conclusion, what seems to be a great product in terms of video and audio capture is let down by a poorly thought out software implementation. Rating:
Reviewed by Champi on 06/03/2008 Does not read multi-session DVDs burned on a PC (only the 1rst session). Recording from disk on a DVD (R or RW) is very slow. Where is the fast mode ? Can't read the DvDs recorded on a PC. Next time I will buy a multimedia disk..... Rating:
Reviewed by IEW on 12/01/2008 This recorder does not have the means to repeat record i.e. if you want to record Eastenders daily then you have to set the recorder up each day. This recorder cannot divide recordings on the hard drive into 2 smaller titles (you can on DVD RWs). So if you record 2 consecutive films that are longer than can be fitted onto a single DVD then you cannot save them onto the disk. The specimin that I have is very slow to jump between chapters (4 seconds per jump) The specimin that I have has rejected all recordable DVDs (even the specific make mentioned in the manual) I cannot work out how to copy from HDD to disk faster than 1x Setting up a timed recording is slow (in my opinion). Instead of typing the time using the number buttons, you have to scroll using arrow buttons. I am sorry to say that I would recommend that unless the above does not matter to you that you do not consider this particular machine. It is worse than I could possibly imagine. Rating:
