Reviewed by Pipes on 04/12/2009 Peace of junk!!! Worked only once and now does not ready any of my DVD's! Don't waste your time and money on buying this load of garbage! Toshiba should be embaressed that they even produced this item to marked. I will never buy anything from Toshiba again!!! Rating:
Reviewed by Rupert on 26/07/2009 I bought a Toshiba DVD as it was recommended as the best quality in a UK What DVD magazine and the battery life was meant to be the longest. After 2 months the battery stopped working. I then had swap out a new battery - same problem. Finally, they replaced it with a new one and one month later I'm getting the "No Valid Disc" issue reported by other here. What a load of rubbish! Rating:
Reviewed by Eunie on 12/06/2009 Same exact problem. I just got an email from Toshiba saying that I could send it in for service (all at my expense of course, and it's almost as costly as a new player!). I purchased two of these units and within about 4 months, they both started having the same problem - 'no valid disc'. For awhile they worked sometimes, now neither one will work at all. I will never buy Toshiba again! Rating:
Reviewed by AK on 24/04/2009 Same problem, only a year old and won't read disc. Rating:
Reviewed by John on 06/03/2009 Brand new player. No Valid Disc error in all dvds... I will buy toshiba... Never again Rating:
Reviewed by Jim on 28/02/2009 Haven't called the company yet, but same as rest. I am thinking class action suit to get some of our money back or at least replacements. Will check back in a week to see who agrees Rating:
Reviewed by Tony in Houston on 25/02/2009 Same experience...this unit SUCKS....worked for awhile, about nine months, then no valid disk error message, even with commerically produced dvd movies..... DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMENDED AND WILL NOT BUY TOSHIBA AGAIN (MUST HAVE BEEN MADE IN CHINA)... Rating:
Reviewed by John, Oxford UK on 06/02/2009 The same as the rest of you. Really disappointed with this useless thing. Rating:
Reviewed by Brian on 05/11/2008 Exact problem as the rest. After a couple of dozen uses,it won't spin the disk and gives the "No Valid Disk" message. Not worth the gas it took to drive to Best Buy and pick it up. Rating:
Reviewed by Joe from Montreal on 07/08/2008 Same as all the comments below. I purchased this unit a year ago to use for my summer vacation travels. A year later, take it out again for vacation and I get "No Valid Disk". I will no longer trust the Tooshitah brand. Rating:
Reviewed by Bob on 22/06/2008 The Toshiba SD-P1900 is piece of junk! It too has the no valid disk error message displayed. Even with all three clips securely in place. It wont spin the DVD at all. It broke a few months afte I purchased it! I should have bought one for 75.00 dollars insted of wasting 180.00 at best buy for this garbage! Toshiba is on my permanete black list from now on! Rating:
Reviewed by Karl on 21/04/2008 The few times in the beginning that it did operate successfully the picture quality was far better than other portables. I had some difficulty seating disks correctly when first purchased, but now just a few months later I get nothing, but "No Valid Disk" message. I haven't contacted manufacturer yet and the other reviews don't look encouraging. Rating:
Reviewed by Jason on 01/03/2008 I've had very good experience with this player, although I also get the "no valid disc" error occasionally. In every case, it has been caused by a disc that is not seated correctly in the player because 1 of the 3 clips on the center hub has not "clicked" fully. The problem appears to be related to specific discs. For example, it happened with almost every disc in the "24" boxed set, but most discs are no problem. If I remove and re-load the disc and verify all 3 clips have "clicked", the problem is fixed. If they are not all clicked, the disc does not sit flat on the hub and it can't spin freely. Rating:
Reviewed by Akeya on 24/01/2008 I, too, am getting the NO Valid Disc error message. I have a SD-P1900SN. It is a fairly new purchase (a few months ago). Seeing this I know that I made a not great choice with this product. Rating:
Reviewed by KC on 17/01/2008 I received the SD-P1900 and it worked for about 1 month. We now continually receive a "No Valid Disk" error. I've owned this unit for about 5 months and Toshiba tells me that I have to return it to them (at my cost) because the service centers no longer want to service small electronics. In addition, it will cost me $59 flat rate to repair it, because it's past the 90 day labor warranty. This experience has made me lose faith in Toshiba and their business practices. From my research on the internet - the "no valid disc" error isn't unusual. Where there's an ongoing problem - there should be a recall or free repair - correct!! Companies that know they are manufacturing poor quality give a 90 day labor warranty - Toshiba should consider standing behind their products - they are ruining their good name. Rating:
Reviewed by Maggie on 06/06/2007 I did all kinds of research before making this purchase, and I really thought I had made the right decision. The picture was awesome (stress the word "was"). It only worked for 3 weeks of a couple of DVD's per week. After that, I just kept getting "no valid disc". Toshiba tech support was of no help. They just told me that I would have to return it to them for repair. I paid about $250 with the 2 year extra warranty, and this is what I get??? Toshiba sucks - never again! I would give it 1/2 a star if it were possible. Rating:
