Reviewed by Johnny on 16/02/2006 I bought one of these for a mate who just got married, and it would not play any divX files at all, just shows the Data Error message so contackted amazon and they are replacing it straight away.
The Tosiba I own is by far the better player, it plays everthing I can fire at it..!! Rating:
Reviewed by Markk on 01/01/2006 I bought DVP-NS52P a few days ago.
CONFUSION:
Sony's European web sites and other web sites announces that player
DVP-NS52P has
Video DAC - 12 bit / 54 MHz. Players front panel says it has Video DAC - 12 bit / 108 MHz. I hope the latter is true.
DVP-NS52P European model and DVP-NS52 USA model have different looking front panels. Tech. specs. are (about) similar but I prefer looks of the USA model.
USA model looks like DVP-NS32 and NS33 in Europe.
GOODS
Picture is good when using composite video output (there is no RGB input in TV).
I am waiting new LCD tv with Composite Video input.
I hope that the picture quality with progressive scan will be as good as
stated in brochures
and compensate disappointments mentioned below.
I have got a few DivX disks from my friends and those worked properly.
In tech specs there is no promise that equipment will play XviD disks.
I have not tried to play XviD disks yet.
Setup user interface was quite pleasent to use.
Remote control also operates other brands of television (not all functions/commands)
BADs
Main annoying thing is slowlyness of the machine.
I wouldn't believe at first but it is true.
My two year old JVC VX-N33 DVD player starts to play disk ie. motion picture appears to the tv screen under 5 secs.
DVP-NS52P uses about 22 secs in the same thing.
Test situation:
- disk is in tray from start
- I tried different original movies bought from store
On the other hand every function from remeote control are functioning nice and fast when you wathing DVD which is running allready .
MINORS:
Remote control should be smaller and better designed.
It also seems to have quit sensitive buttons so it requires light touch.
There is Variable-Speed Playback with Sound but with no subtitles!!!
SUMMARY
It is sad that JVC didn't offer in their express functioning and easy to use DVD players with 12 bit 108 MHz video DAC in this price gategory.
Although I am not shure if my eyes really see the difference between 10
and 12 bit.
It is amazing that SONY haven't develop faster startup in their low end
DVD players.
Is this a major cost factor?!?
I have to think it over if I will return the player and claim refund.
But still, exellent picture quality wich I hopyfully will get can chance
my complaint to praise. Rating:
