Reviewed by Gruntfuttock on 12/03/2006 First impression is the difficulty of opening the lid; so much so that most people will resolve not to allow the catch to snap shut again.
Picture quality is bright and adequate for playing action DVDs'. However a
plain background such as a title or menu page shows up an unpleasant
streaky effect. Definition is disappointing, I used it to display the menu of a Sky satellite box but found the text much easier to read on a smaller (5 inch) Shinon screen.
On top of this, when using the screen to display an external signal it is not possible to adjust the contrast & colour etc. A major drawback in my
opinion.
Sound from the internal speakers is negigible in quality and volume. One
better speaker instead of two may have helped.
During use constant distraction is provided by two bright LEDs' which
cannot be turned off, if this were not bad enough, when playing an external video source one of these lamps continually flashes on and off.
On top of all this, when switched off and disconnected from any external supply, there is still a bright lamp on, providing a continual discharge of the battery: very clever.
The remote seems to have been designed by a specialist in secret writing.
Silver figures on a grey background is stupid choice but it is readable if
you can get the light to strike it at a precise angle. A range of more
than twelve inches would be appreciated though. Rating:
