Reviewed by chris on 02/05/2008Well i have owned one of these for approx 4 months ..now refuses to work .. Philips do not repair and their support is non exsistant . Before it refused to work (from new) The loading tray was slow as was the buttons on the remote . took 3-4 minutes to start a dvd .. for some reason it was like living in slow motion operating this pile of junk .. i would not recommend this player or anything from philips .. buy one at your own risk .. i wasted £55 well i guess that taught me a lesson .. BUY QUALITY Rating: ![]() Reviewed by Laurence on 20/11/2007 I've had the player a couple of weeks now, and it is a capable performer but you do not get the draw dropping improvement on a hdtv that some reviews would lead you to expect. Out of the box the case seems a little flimsy, and once hooked up using hdmi I could get no sound. Three layers deep into setup menu's and the problem was rectified, the latest firmware upgrade (as at November 2007) from Philips recognises the problem and sets the hdmi sound to ON as default. Should've been anyway. If you have another device hooked to your tv using a rgb scart there can be a conflict meaning the hdmi cable needs to be removed from the back of the tv to watch the other device. This issue needs to be fixed asap. Picture quality is probably a 20-25% improvement on standard DVD, better but not That much. My main gripe is that on powering up the player "hangs up" from time to time, and needs to be restarted by removing power at the plug to reboot. This may be because I use mostly DVD's sourced in Thailand though! Usb support on the front panel is great for slideshows and a welcome feature. Overall, having paid 70 pounds plus 20 pounds for a hdmi lead I I am a little disapointed. If I knew when I bought it what I know now I'd have stuck with my old player . Now the process takes less than 10 minutes. I use nero to make an iso dvd. Just drag the .avi movie and the subtitle flies and burn a dvd. Fast and simple. And playback is great. The player has more features than i will use. For me just the convenience of burning the .avi file with subtitle files is great. www.artistas-americanos.com Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
