Samsung Digimax A7

Product Rating

Samsung Digimax A7 The Samsung Digimax A7 looks like its siblings, the Digmax A5 and Digimax A6, but the A7 is definitely a step up from either of those two. Not only does it offer an impressive 7 megapixels but the optical zoom (5x) and digital zoom (5x) are both higher than the other two cameras and the 2.0" LCD screen is larger. Like the Digimax A6, the A7 comes with 32Mb of internal memory which will get you started but you'll probably want to buy an external memory card to keep you going for longer.

The circular reflector on the front of the camera is a mirror that allows you to check your appearance before taking a photo of yourself. You can record movies at 30 frames per second for sharp playback. The Digimax A7 supports MPEG-4 which is a high-compression, high-quality movie clip file format.

The Samsung Digimax A7 has all the features now commonly associated with digital cameras such as scene modes (Night, Portrait, Landscape, and Fireworks), voice recording and voice memo, white balance functions and PictBridge direct printing. There are various manual functions for the more adventurous users (A/S/M). The quick-view button lets you see your pictures while the power is turned off.

Features of the Samsung Digimax A7 include:

  • 7.0 megapixels high resolution
  • 32MB internal memory
  • Large 2.0" LCD
  • 4cm Macro
  • 15X ZOOM (3x optical and 5x digital)
  • VGA 30 frame movies with audio
  • One touch Manual Function(A/S/M Button)
  • One-touch playback even when the power is off.

What a shame about this camera, I found it one of the most attractive in style and shape etc. I bought all the accessories to go along with this camera printer, SD card Samsung rechargable batteries etc. Everything was going fantastic took some fab holiday snaps sadly when I came home everything went downhill. I went to turn on the camera and nothing? The camera froze with the lense out and the function light still flashing and took a few minutes to come on as if something was freezing and taking its time to warm up? When the camera works it's perfect in every other way just sometimes when I go to turn it on it takes a few minutes to work. Apart from that no other fault. Just wondered if anyone else experienced this? I don't want to change it for another model as I am happy with this one.

I was happy at first with this camera until the other day I went to turn it on and the lens came out but the screen turned totally blank and the camera wouldn't turn off ? I had to remove the batteries for it to go off. I have since read and spoken to other samsung digimax owners who have had the exact same problem as myself so this proves that there is a malfunction with this model. I don't expect to pay as much as I did for this camera and for it not work within the first 8 months so now I am having to send it away, simply not good enough.

At first I was quite pleased with this camera, though not 100% happy with the picture quality on close up work. However my biggest worry is after only 8 months the screen burst, I was taking pics then suddenly the screen went black, end of camera. I'm now having battle trying to get it repaired free of charge as Samsung insisting that it's been either dropped or some other mishap has occurred to it.

I found this camera a huge disappointment after buying one to replace my broken Canon Powershot A40. Even though it is a 7mp camera I found the photographs to be lacking in detail when enlarged. The colour was nowhere near as rich as the Canon A40 and the biggest drawback for me was the significant purple fringe to some objects. I have now discovered this is called 'chromatic aberration'. On the plus side the functions are quite intuitive and the 2" LCD screen is clear. To summarise, don't be fooled into buying it for the 7mp resolution. The photos are distinctly average. Consider buying a 'big name' camera brand such as Canon but with fewer pixels instead, even if this costs slightly more money.

I purchased the Samsung Digimax A7 over the Christmas Holiday. I was extermely happy with the resolution and picture quality. I was also pleased with the large bright display. It has rechargable batteries and very good battery life when used with a Sandisk 256Mb flash. Unfortunately after 2 months of light use the menu button on the back started to act up. First every once in a while if you pressed it, it would act as if you pressed it twice. Soon it started to act as if you pressed it 3, then 4, then continuously for a couple of seconds. Seems like the debounce circuit went bad. I expected better quality for $300. Now I have to deal with warranties and pay shipping to get it fixed! I recommend stay away from this one. Pick a name that has been in the camera business for a while if your going to spend that kind of money!

After using 3 digital cameras over the past 3-4 years I must admit I was never really that impressed at the quality of the prints but when I bought the DIGIMAX A7 I was really blown away. I have taken so many fantastic photos with it and may blown up to A4 size without any loss of quality. I now look forward to going on our family walks in the country because I know I am going to get brilliant top quality professional pictures that would be the envy of many keen photographers. I guarantee you cannot buy a better camera for three times the price. If you want a camera that takes top quality pictures indoors, with flash and outdoors in any weather then get one now.
