Reviewed by David Bracegirdle on 17/07/2006 Absolutely brilliant! Can't fault the camera at all, great case and the bundled software isn't too bad. To get the most out of the device you should have some high capacity rechargeable batteries (x2 AA batteries, at least 2000 mAh) and an SD card of at least 128mb - with those you can't go wrong at all and you will have a fantastic camera. Reviewed by BRADFORD on 30/12/2005 I researched digital cameras under $100(US)and scouted them on ebay and on internet review sites until my eyes, fingers, and head totally ached! I finally purchased 3 Samsung 3.2 meg (no optical zoom) models, and gave them as family x-mas gifts. I had to fight the Day-After-Thanksgiving-5am-Rush. I got the last 3 advertised. They cost around $80. My folks and siblings were thrilled! These cameras weren't toys, and didn't feel like the cheap "starter-cams" that you buy in plastic-blister-pacs hanging on the wall. Really nice little compact units! Very solid in feel. Good brand-name recognition (not some totally off-brand-pile-o'nonsense.) Anyway, my wife and I received gift certs. to a major retailer for x-mas, so we decided that we deserved a new camera too! The lens-cover-on-off-mechanism on our Olympus digicam was broken, plus we were taping the battery compartment shut with band-aids! Finally, the unit was over 5 years old, was the size of a brick, had tiny lcd screen, and sported only 2 meg. I would have purchased the same 3.2 Samsung that I bought for family, but none left to be found, especially at that blow-out price. I decided to buck-up $150 and get more megapixels, plus some optical zoom. I scouted EVERYTGHING in the price range. I opted for Samsung again! This A-400 totally rocks! I couldn't find another camera out there in the price range with 12x total zoom, 2 inch lcd, and all the other custom features that this camera sports. I looked at Nikon, Canon, Fuji, Kodak, and Polaroid. Great picture quality, good software too. Maybe not as totally user friendly as the kodak, but spend a few hours reading and fiddling and you'll be happy to get all the features figured out. The compact size and shape beats Nikon's, plus you get audio recording and a bigger screen than a comparably priced nikon. The feel of the unit beats the toy-like quality of similarly priced kodak and polaroid. All-in-all i'm quite happy with this camera Rating:

Reviewed by rosemary kind on 02/10/2005 Had this camera for about a year and it takes very good pictures, easy to use and easy to load onto the computer. Batteries run out very quickly though - and I would go for a re-chargeable battery next time. Otherwise, very pleased with it. Rating:

Reviewed by Nowell on 30/12/2004 My very first 35mm film instamatic camera is Olympus, then later on I shifted to digital camera and I bought an Olympus again...But one day while reading some brochure I saw this Digimax A400 on sale...because of my curiosity about this Samsung Digimax I started looking some reviews in the internet I looked at the specs, it seems ok to me so I went to the shopping mall and saw this model,I checked the items...I was stunned about the 2"LCD monitor! as well as the appearance. So without any hesitation I took it and paid it. I tested it,point and shoot different indoor/outdoor area in several times comparing to my other digital camera...The end result,I was convinced that this is one of the best digital camera that I ever had, it can produce a quality photos...sharp,crisp and clear images, even in the dark area and also the battery life is much longer than my other digicam (I recommend to use NiMH batteries). It is a highly recommended 4 megapixel camera especially to the novice digital camera users! So check it out. Rating:
Reviewed by Peter on 28/12/2004 I'm in agreement with Gary from canada, I also paid 179.00(canadian) on boxing day, had to stand in line for two and a half hours, the worst part of the whole experience. I'm a novice so I hope gary is right about the ease. Rating:
Reviewed by Gary from Canada on 26/12/2004 I purchased this camera on Boxing Day at just C$ 179. I was a little hesitant to buy it because Samsung has not a big name in cameras like Nikon, Leica or Canon. But the test shots were so impressive that I exclaimed 'GGGRRRREITTTTT..' It is lightweight, small but with a 2 inch LCD. Operation is simple and user friendly. I recommend this camera, specially to novice photographers. Rating:
Reviewed by CHRISTOF on 01/12/2004 Good quality photos indoors and outdoors. Quite good colour reproduction. Video mode works well especially outdoors. Good points: Video mode 640*480, large 5cm LCD screen. Bad points: limited internal memory (16MB), no optical zoom, sold without charger or rechargeable batteries. Excellent value for money. Simple to use with the possibility to use in manual mode (number of modes possible). Recommended for anyone wanting to buy a good camera with a limited budget. Advice: buy an extra memory card, 256MB or 512MB which will allow you to use the video mode in high resolution for clips of length 10 minutes or more. Also buy rechargeable batteries. Rating:
