Fuji FinePix Z2 Zoom
Product Rating
The Fuji FinePix Z2 Zoom is, to all extents and purposes, the same as the Fuji FinePix Z1 Zoom. Both cameras have 5.1 megapixels, 3x optical zoom, 5.7x digital zoom and a 2.5" LCD monitor. The super slim dimensions of both cameras are also identical. The main difference is that the Fuji FinePix Z2 has a greater low light ability with a sensitivity of ISO 1600. This is useful since this is exactly the sort of slimline pocket camera that you might want to take on a night out with friends. Movies are recorded at 30 frames per second which is suitable for playback on a television.
Features of the Fuji FinePix Z2 Zoom include:
- Unique wrapped-shell design
- 5.1 million pixels
- VGA - 640 x 480 resolution 30 frames per sec movie
- ISO 64-1600 - four times as effective in low light
- 2.5" LCD screen
- 3x optical zoom
- 0.6 sec start-up time

Reviewed by Dave Gee on 21/06/2006 Very disappointing camera. Offers up to 5 Megapixels (in fine or normal mode), but somehow manages to soften out all the pictures it takes, so they end up looking kind of chalky and lack any detail. They look deceptively clear on the good large camera screen, but looking at them on a PC the quality is noticeably soft and distorted (kind of like bad jpeg artifacting, or using some sort of "smoothing" filter in Photoshop). On the upside, it is fairly simple to use, and takes good quality movies, but it's not worth it when my 3 year old Minolta Dimage 400 takes clearer and more detailed photos despite only offering 4 megapixels. Reviewed by David Pearson on 06/12/2005 I have just bought the Z2 after a lot of head scratching, and was delighted with the look and the display screen in the shop... But the picture quality is a lot poorer than the Fujifilm Finepix F601Z that I am trying to replace. I have taken exactly the same pictures in the same lighting conditions and even with the resolution on the F601 set to 3megapixels and the Z2 at 5 megapixels the Z2 delivers a much poorer defined image. The colour is okay but it is just not as detailed. Much as I hate to do it because I love the design, I am going to have to send it back as the photos- which is what all this is about- are worse than my 3 year old F601. Rating:
Reviewed by George Dobson-Brown on 05/12/2005 After owning a Fuji 2800 before and being very satisfied I wanted a slimmer replacement. Unfortunately, this camera is hopeless at focussing. Almost all photos are blurred despite carefully getting the settings correct. However, the video mode is good. Do not buy this camera! Rating:
Reviewed by Clive on 01/12/2005 Having spent an age researching which ultra compact I was going to buy, I plumped for the Z2. Great looking and a real take anywhere camera. Having recieved it I took a few comparative shots with my old Nikon coolpix 4300 4mp and was left disappointed. The Z2 may look cool - but the picture quality is appalling compared to my old Nikon. My test shots were taken on auto settings with flash indoors (which is where the Z2 is supposed to excel) yet the results were grainy with no definition or detail. The Z1 got some rave reviews and has apparently been a great seller .... why the Z2 doesn't measure up I dont know? My advise is to avoid it! Rating:
