Reviewed by John Sommer on 12/06/2006 Great Camera - Great Pictures Beware - Camera will last about 2 - 2 1/2 years!! My camera just died on me and will not come on - Do not know what is wrong!! Rating:
Reviewed by Brian McLeod on 17/02/2006 I would rate the camera as good to excellent, however the editing software with is rubbish. I have not had one seconds problem with it, I've taken about 13,000 pictures with it in the last 2.5 years I have had it. I've used it for everything from trips, wedding pictures, and just all kinds of functions. But it looks as if I'm headed for some disappointment in the futre from what previous people have had to say. Rating:
Reviewed by Jo on 22/11/2005 I have had my camera for over 2 years now. Excellent work, good quality pics although night mode has not always been up to scratch. Have dropped it a few times, hence, the wrinckled metal cover but no problems up to now. Mind you, reading what everybody else has written, I'm not sure I am that positive about my camera but up to now - brilliant job really! Maybe the problem comes from the US manufacturer because the one producing for Europe has given good quality cameras (that is for now!). Rating:
Reviewed by Jessica on 27/08/2005 I too am also one whose Canon s45 has dissappointed them. We were just on a trip to Whistler and the camera just died while on vacation. After 2 years of flawless operation, the lens stayed open and the screen went blank. It won't close or open or turn on. All with the full battery. My brother in law had the s30 and our friend had the s40 and theirs also both died after about 2 to 2.5 years of use. What is the deal with the Canon manufacturers building these things to only last you a couple years. I collect Canons. I have the Elan 7e, the Rebel G, and a sureshot Owl. I don't think I'll buy another Canon Digital. I've spent enough money and I expected it to take me further than just two years. Rating:
Reviewed by kathy clarke on 25/04/2005 Was the best thing in the world for a couple of years - Great pictures and very dependable. But the lens just stopped opening and closing. No drops, no bangs, no apparent reason. Repair is costly and you can buy a new one for about the same. Bought an S70 to replace it and had the same lens problem in 2 months. I will not buy a Canon again. Rating:
Reviewed by Christopher Hansen on 16/12/2004 camera also died after about 2 years Rating:
Reviewed by Scott on 30/10/2004 Like the previous reviewer, my S45 suddenly lost its ability to take photos last night, after 17 months of flawless operation. The Canon tech support man deduced instantly that its sensor has died, and like the previous reviewer, said my options were to spend $150 to $300 for Canon to fix it, or pay $225 to upgrade to an S50. In less than a year-and-a-half, a $500 camera should not simply die like it did. Tell you what, Canon. I'll take the $300 you wanted from me and will go invest it in a digital camera from a different brand. They've lost my business forever. Rating:
Reviewed by Slavvek on 23/10/2004 pict quality is excellent, good looking and a nice sturdy feeling of the camera body. Dissapointment came when it stoped working after 1.5 year - lenses stays in a bay despite sliding on and off the cover. Canon service in Warsaw repaired it for about 60$, gave 3 month warranty, after a month the same problem emerged. Currently again at the service. Service is not responsive, did not want say what was(is) wrong. With regret - I like this camera very much - I would not buy it again. Summarising - think twice. Rating:
Reviewed by Julie on 01/09/2004 The camera itself and its functionality were excellent, however, when my camera completely died only one month after warranty the high repair price from Canon (150-300$) was not a high point of my life with this camera. They did offer an upgrade to a PowerShot S50 with two day turn around for 225$, but it is frustrating when it seems like I should have just paid the extra money to begin with. One should note that I also have two friends with the same camera who experienced no problems and their cameras are working fine. I either really abused my camera (I take it everywhere) or I got a dud. Better repair options at a lower price would make this camera a minimum of 4-5 stars. However as it stands I cannot give it more than 2 for complete failure only 13 months after purchase. Rating:
