The Canon PowerShot S2 IS has a huge 12x optical zoom lens providing a 35mm focal length equivalent of 36-432mm. The Optical Image Stabilizer (IS) is designed to counteract camera shake, even at full zoom and in low light conditions. Macro mode allows for precise focusing no matter how close you get to your subject.
The PowerShot S2 IS has the capacity to shoot up to 60 minutes of VGA quality movies (depending on memory card capacity and speed) with full stereo sound. A dedicated movie button lets you shoot in either 15 or 30fps to. The Photo In Movie feature allows full resolution digital stills to be taken whilst shooting a movie.
The DIGIC II processor delivers 2.4 fps continuous shooting (with the LCD turned off), super fast auto focus and rapid start up. The PowerShot S2 IS provides 18 shooting modes. These include 6 Special Scene modes - Foliage, Snow, Beach, Fireworks, Indoor, Night Snapshot, and My Colors for special effect colour swapping and manipulation. Direct manual control is available over a number of settings, such as focus, IS mode, shutter speed and aperture, and audio sampling rate.
At 1.8" the LCD screen is not the largest available but it does offer a vari-angle facility, with Night Display for improved visibility in low light.
Optional wide and tele converter lenses are available for this camera. Other optional accessories available include a close-up lens and High-Power Flash. A variety of editing software is included and you can also print direct without a PC to any PictBridge or Canon Direct Print compatible photo printer.
Canon iMAGE Gateway (not available in all regions) provides access to 100MB of internet storage for images, and movies.

This is the best of digital cameras I seen so far. As a church-based Journalist, it has not failed to give me just what i want for my church magazine. No disappointment, no shaking. It is balm! And I strongly recommend it to all.

I bought this camera back in September and I think its awesome. The Super Macro feature is the best. It can focus from about .5cm away. I looove it. And the zoom is awesome too.

I just purchased a brand new Canon Powershot S2 IS and a 1GB SanDisc CD Memeory Card. When I tried to do a low level format (Canon recommended), the camera reports "Memory Card Error" and turns itself off. After numerous attempts - and all failures - I googled Canon "Mememory Card Failure": (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&rls=GGLC%2CGGLC%3A1969-53%2CGGLC%3Aen&q=canon+%22memory+card+error%22&btnG=Search) I was horrified to see the results. I'm returning this camera immediately. For the rest of the story, simply do that search yourself and start looking at user reports. Canon should be ashamed of itself.
