Canon PowerShot A710 IS
Product Rating
The Canon PowerShot A710 IS crosses the boundaries between a point and shoot camera and an enthusiast's camera. At the very least it is a top of the range point and shoot. It comes with an ample 7.1 megapixels and an impressive 6x optical zoom lens. The camera has Optical Image Stabilizer technology, the purpose of which is to counteract camera shake when photographing with a slow shutter speed or with full zoom. The camera has a large 2.5" LCD screen with a wide viewing angle. The LCD screen has a Night Display mode. You can also select a grid line on the LCD to help with composing shots. The camera records movies at 30 frames per second in VGA mode and at 60 frames per second in QVGA mode.
The PowerShot A710 IS can be used in automatic mode. For the more serious photographer it also offers Program AE, Shutter priority AE, Aperture priority AE and Manual modes. Other modes are Portrait, Landscape, Night Scene, Stitch Assist and Movie. Pre-set Special Scenes included are Night Snapshot, Kids & Pets, Indoor, Foliage, Snow, Beach, Fireworks, Underwater, Color Accent and Color Swap. There are lots of options to choose from in the Photo Effects: My Colors Off, Vivid, Neutral, Sepia, Black & White, Lighter Skin Tone, Darker Skin Tone, Positive Film, Vivid Blue, Vivid Red, Vivid Green and Custom Color.
The camera takes 2x size-AA Alkaline or NiMH batteries (NB4-300). Alkaline batteries are supplied. A battery charger kit (CBK4-300), NiMH batteries (NB4-300) and AC Adaptor kit (ACK800) are available as optional accessories. You can get various accessories for this camera including wide and tele converter lenses, a close-up lens and slave flash. There is also an optional waterproof case for shooting at depths up to 40 metres.
