This review is my opinion only, don't rely on it when parting with your hard earned cash! Why did I buy the Canon IXUS 400? Let me be frank. The salesman persuaded me that it was the best camera for my needs. My head looked at the price and said no, but my eyes saw the beauty of the tiny IXUS 400 and said yes. Actually, now I've got it home and used it, my head is starting to agree! The great thing about the IXUS is its tiny size, coupled with the power of 4 megapixels. That's what really sold it to me. I wanted a camera that I could carry anywhere, but that was capable of producing really good pictures (provided that I knew how to use it!). So the camera is perfect, and I'm gradually learning how to use it properly and not like a complete donkey. There are lots of cool features in this camera, like the continuous shooting feature, which is great for fast-moving action shots. The combined optical and digital zoom lets you get in really close to the subject if you are a long way off. Did I mention that the camera looks really cool too? Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by David on 12/07/2004 As my first camera in the world of digital photography I am by no means disappointed by the IXUS400. Easy to learn and use for even the most simpleminded of photographers, and great for either those holiday snaps or parties. Downside is your only getting 3x optical zoom which is plenty for some, but not for others. The digital zoom, up to 11x magnification but be warned, digital zoom will hamper quality badly and produce grainy lego-men photos. Various settings to allow you to change the effect, resolution, and quality of the images so whether your wanting a few high quality jpegs or quanity matters rather than quality, you can easily squeeze 500+ pictures onto a 256mb flashcard at 4megapixel each. A spare battery is a must for trips away unless you can afford to recharge the battery every few hours as it can quickly run out on you.
