Canon EOS 400D
Product Rating
The Canon EOS 400D follows the EOS 300D and EOS 350D, being the latest in Canon's line of affordable, compact and relatively lightweight digital SLRs. The resolution has increased from 8 to 10 megapixels compared with the EOS 350D and the 400D now has 9-point AF instead of 7-point AF. The Canon EOS 400D has a Self-Cleaning Sensor Unit that shakes dust from the CMOS sensor every time you power on the camera, keeping the sensor sharp and clear. The LCD screen size has increased noticeably from its predecessor, and is now 2.5" which is the sort of size you would expect on most point and shoot cameras. The LCD has a 160° viewing angle. The EOS 400D is compatible with all of Canon's EF and EF-S lenses and all EX Series Speedlite flash units. There is a Video Out socket for reviewing shots on a television screen and fast data transfer with a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connection.
Features of the Canon EOS 400D include:
- 10.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor
- EOS Integrated Cleaning System
- 2.5" LCD
- 9-point wide-area AF
- Picture Styles
- DIGIC II
- 3fps with up to 27 frame burst
- DPP RAW image processing software

Reviewed by Mike Norton on 09/09/2007 Excellent machine. Great in all aspects and great value for money (especially with the canon discount). Pictures are well balanced, details if superb and the kit lens 18-55 gives very good macro capability. Bought a no name battery grip and remote shutter release for low light and still life photography. Have not yet found anything it cannot do well, althought this is my first venture into digital photography. Rating:
Reviewed by peterli on 28/05/2007 a good camera though the handgrip is a bit small. i had to buy a battery grip to use it. Rating:
