Great camera in many ways, small light good record quality but unacceptably poor quality when transfered to the computer via USB2 or FireWire and if you can't xfer to the computer for editing and buring to DVD what's the point of buying a digital camera? My Sony Hi8 produces better quality when convert it to digital via ADS Instant DVD capture box. So if you don't plan to transfer to the computer save $ and buy a Hi8 if you do plan to edit on the computer and xfer to dvd buy another camera - chk out JVC. This is not the top of the range Sony camcorder, but the vast majority of users will surely find that it does everything that they require from a camcorder. First of all, the Carl Zeiss optics are truly excellent and the high resolution of the camera far exceeds that of older analogue recorders. In fact the image quality seems to be capable of capturing near-professional footage. The optical and digital zooms are powerful and more than adequate for most uses. I find that the interface with a PC is very good and the software supplied with the camcorder is excellent. It is possible to purchase excellent third-party software for movie editing, and I would recommend this for advanced users, but nevertheless the software supplied is very versatile too. There are very many features available on this model, and I have not yet found a need for many of them. I expect to be using this camcorder for many years to come!

At first I was going to buy the Sony DCR-TRV33, but found a great deal for the TRV22 and decided to buy. At first I was worried about the lower resolution of the TRV22, its just 0.8 megapixels instead of the full megapixel of the TRV33, but I needn't have worried. Whilst some tech buffs might be able to spot the difference, I can't, and none of my family can either, after all I'm not shooting the latest Matrix film! I find the camcorder really easy to use, nice to hold (much lighter than my old analogue dinosoar). The miniDV format is nice - I love the tiny little tapes - so easy to use, and I can be confident that my memories are going to be stored for years to come. I can also transfer old VHS tapes to digital, although I haven't tried to do this yet. I'm no expert, but I find that I can take good quality films, and that's what counts. Its so easy to use, I can just take the camcorder along whenever we go on picnics, or its one of the kids birthdays, or something. This was a really good investment and I would recommend it.
