This is a great little camcorder HOWEVER mine had its CCD die after about 18 months (only 3 hours or so of photography and maybe three times that of play-back). I have since found out that several other examples of this particular model (VPD-230) have had the identical problem. After some investigation I also found out that this fault affected several products of a number of manufacturers who had sourced the same CCDs. THe other manufacturers have replaced the faulty CCDs free of charge, even if out of warranty. Samsung deny that there is a problem so don't expect any help from them. Apparently the fault was caused by new manufacturing process that caused an internal breakdown in the CCDs. Although this was a great little camcorder while it worked it is now as much use for filming as a broken brick. I suggest that buyers be aware of the problem.

I have recently purchased a samsung vp-d230. It is a great little camera for the price, excellent picture quality, sound and ability to transfer via firewire cable to pc all the pics and video saved on memory card. The only drawback is the zoom function button, it is awkward to work, it should have been mounted on top of camera otherwise no complaints well worth the money. The battery which is supplied is only a small capacity charge, but can purchase higher spec batteries.
