Write a review of the Samsung HMX-H200!

Reviewed by russzero on 20/04/2011 please note this is for a Samsung HMX-H200. i wanted something a bit better than my compact camera (PL70) .. with movie mode. after searching i narrowed it down to a few that looked promising. the H200 was in store locally so i opted for this. the camera is pretty small .. can fit in your trouser pocket. the mechanical lens cap is manual .. so you have to remember to close it and open when you start to film. battery life is not bad for the size of the battery.a spare would be handy. replacement battery seems expensive compared to most. the camera has time lapse which i found works very well. the image Q is very good. i shoot mainly at 720p as there were problems trying to get the videos to run smooth on the laptop for editing .. even though the laptop is pretty up to date. most of my movies ive shot at wide angle ... so i dont get much camera shake. theres a stabilizer that takes a little while to kick in .. but finally works ok. the autofocus is ok but i normally switch it off. there is plenty of room on the inside to have fitted a few custom buttons. ie.focus & WB i would certainly found handy rather than looking into the menus. the quick-view button on top i find anoying ... as i keep pressing it.this should have been inside ... after all .. u cant view the videos with the screen shut! a silly place to put it. in bright sunlight theres the same old problem viewing the lcd screen!! i wish there was a viewfinder version .. even at a slight increase in cost .. as im not keen on using the screen outdoors. the still pictures are ok but nothing special. the audio is very sensitive and could benifit from a normal and low setting for noisy places. the stereo is very good. verdict : a neat camcorder. compact and takes a good Q movie. not much hassle but in bright sun the screen is hard to see. natural pictures and good stereo sound. very handy. 8.5/10 Rating:
