I purchased this camcorder last year and the quality is pretty good unless you want to use it in low light. I also have had trouble with some of the dvd disks I purchased from Panasonic. e.g. 3 out of the 5 disk pack had the picture breaking up when replaying. Pansonic replaced the disks when I contacted them. The optical zoom is fairly good (using the stabilizer) I like this model but I think in the future I would go for a hard disk drive because the less fiddling about swapping dvd's and having the optical reading lens exposed the better (and sometimes buying faulty DVD's)
