Reviewed by Anthony Hooley on 30/04/2007 I bought the Panasonic NVMX500B on the 14 May 2004 to go to France for the 60th DDay Anniversary. As my wifes father was there on Sword Beach with the East Yorkshire 3rd Div. It did well and now 3 years on and not a lot of wear. It started to change colour in mid shot and go all red or all blue and have red flashes across picture I had it check by a specialist camcorder service engineer he said it looks like CCD prizm or simular. The bill could with futher investigation cost upto and above £300. I don't know what to do as it cost £980 three years ago and I don't think £300 a year is good buy. I looked on a Panasonic forum and some say it was a bad batch of CCD prizms in that year, a few have contacted Panasonic and had the new CCD prizm fitted free of charge. I don't think it will happen, I have asked the engineer to investigate. Rating:
Reviewed by Jenny Day on 17-02-2004 Really if there was a six star rating this would qualify. Its way and above the best puchase I ever made. I wanted a semi-pro 3CCD camcorder for use making low budget documentary and education films intended for public screening. The problem was my budget wouldn't stretch to the #2000 plus that a DVCAM camera would cost - or indeed the #1500 that some of panasonics rivals wanted for a similar spec. The first thing which staggered me was the small size of the camera. It is amazing that Panasonic have managed to cram so much into such a small box. In my line od work as a broadcast professional that can be a two edged sword because clients like to see you turn up with impressive looking kit. I think it reassures them that you aren't fred in the shed with his wobbly cam and overzoomovision. On the other hand having something this light allows for some fantastic unobtrusive fly on the wall stuff. Nor is it lightweight in performance. the Leica lens produces cracking good pics - add to this 3 full broadcast resolution CCD's and you have an amazing little item - partcicularly at a sub #1000 price. For the pro this one is spoilt by the fact that it is mini-dv rather than DVC-pro or DVCAM but then it isn't really aimed at us. What it is aimed at is the enthusiast who wants the best quality for his home videos and would like to be able to edit them with no trouble. This camera meets and surpasses that capability. It has so many ways to connect it to your Pc or mac (yes it works fine with final cut pro and iphoto) that I lost cout of them. certainly it has USB and firewire DV in an out. It also has a host of other nice touches like a tie clip remote control and mictophone... Hook it up to the PC and it even becomes a webcam. I will be using it for the pro applications that I outlined - but also to replace my digital stiill camera (it\'s that small !!!) AND my domestic camcorder for family use. One box replaces three (all of which are bigger than it is....) All in all it is pretty Darned near PERFECT - so I say BUY BUY BUY ! Rating:
