I used supplied S/W but find Serif MoviePlus X3 does the job much better with no trouble with the relevent (automatic) plug-in applied. Other than that - this is a basic camera and I did not expect high end results. It's fine for on-the- fly filming and you do get what you pay for. I agree DV tape in general get's better results. However memory cards are likely to be more reliable in the long term with no moving parts. DV play back is also linear and not as convenient as SD.

having upgraded recently to this camcorder i was at first very impressed- it is light, compact and relatively cheap. the functionality is fairly intuitive. problems then came at the point of video transfer and editing. the software is so poor that i regret having made the purchase. there is no video editing software - which would not ordinarily be a problem - except that is for the fact all files are recorded in a .mod format - which is not recognized by a lot of video editing packages on the market (despite jvc contrary statement.) in fact when one start looking at the numerous forums on the subject you find discussions surrounding wether to convert the medium, or change the suffix ,or possible software that you could buy . this leads onto numerous opinions to do with loss of quality..... frankly a headache caused by jvc poor software support. i ended up contacting jvc several times until they eventually sent me info of a jvc disc that has the relevant software that then costs a further 15£ i now have to follow up reviews as to wether this is any good .... a waste of time and energy. in my ignortance i had assumed a camcorder recording onto an sd card would simply allow for data transfer without any complications. how wrong could i be . with hindsight the mistake i made i feel was to assume that the camcorder would be compatible with my computer and standard software which i have installed. this has turned into a bit of a rant - just look at the numerous forums - a consistent theme runs across them. if you have an old dv cammcorder that works - keep with it - they works and the recording format standard. avoid
