Reviewed by Andrew Wilkes on 30/04/2009 I too "used" to love and adore this camera. Now sadly the firewire port had gone and I am told this is a common problem with these cameras. Try and buy a second cheaper camcorder to download your footage to your PC. This is because the repair bill is a cool £600 if you need a new board. Used to rate this camcorder as 5* now sadly it's a 2*. Rating:
Reviewed by stephen martin on 04-08-2005 I have had this camcorder for 6 months now and I find it the best thing I have ever used. Before I had a Sony VX100 and that was good but this is just far far better. Rating:
Reviewed by www.impskate.tk on 13-07-2005 I have the Canon XM1 and it's the best camcorder I have ever used and the XM2 is even better so I am definetly investing in one. I definetly recommend it! Rating:
Reviewed by Philip L Jackosn on 18/12/2004 Excellent results, superb quality pictures, sound can be a little poor if microphone not directly at subject. Well worth the money Rating:
Reviewed by Ray Trench on 29-06-2004 As an owner of a Canon XL1, XL1s and XM2 I have to confess total satisfaction with all three cameras. I do a lot of wedding videos and use these three cameras along with the tiny Sony PCW8 which is also a remarkably good performer despite its diminutive size. Of the three Canons, the XM2 is definitely my favorite. For much less money it provides the same quality results as its two larger siblings but at much less weight and more portability (especially wheh having to do without a tripod!!). Thing is, in my business the big 'uns just look more professional!! The XM2 performs really well in all light conditions and I have yet to notice the camera noise on video - I have, however, noticed it on the XL1 models - faintly. I am no technocrat, just a bog standard user of these four super cameras. If I were buying again, with the knowledge I have now, I'd have gone for two XM2's and let the single XL1 do the 'professional talking' for me. I unreservedly recommend the XM2 as a superb camera. I wish I could afford another - but that's being greedy. Rating:
